" in horrible taste," Al said, staring at the skull-faced, Dementoresque wraiths floating about the front lawn of Malfoy Manor.

"Oh, I know," Scorpius cackled, gleefully rubbing his hands together. "And the best part is, it won't even occur to the diminutive Mugglekins that they're real, until--RAWR!" He leaped at Al, but Al was too fast and dodged, sending Scorpius face-first into a rosebush. "Ptooie! Oh, no, not my Ladeshian Blues..."

"Serves you right." Al shook his head. "Scorpius, I'm worried. The Ministry isn't exactly known for being level-headed, and you know this isn't what they had in mind when they passed the Historical Significance and Public Interest bill."

"Of course it's not." Scorpius plucked the last few leaves out of his hair and threw them to the ground. "My father spent fifteen years fighting that bill, fighting to keep our home our home, not another venue for their damned war against the Pureblood families. Even your father got behind. But the good of the public shall not be turned aside," he sneered, and then the fire went out of him all in a rush. "The least I could do was claim All-Hallow's Eve...pretend it was all just a diversion..." Al was shocked to see him dash tears from his eyes. He moved forward, pulling Scorpius into his arms.

"Hey, now," he said, coaxing his boyfriend to look at him. "Come on--it's Halloween! And I know someone who might really be able to help us out."

"Oh, yes." Now it was Al's turn to grin as he pulled a small, round mirror out of his pocket and tapped it with his wand. "Hi, Uncle George! Have I got a job for you..."
